The support available to police who have come to harm as a result of their policing career has increased through a pioneering new partnership.
A new partnership between law firm Slater and Gordon and Police Care UK will offer retired and serving police officers, staff, staffed volunteers, access to specialist support if they have experienced harm because of policing.
Launched in 2019 following the merger of The Police Dependants’ Trust and the National Police fund, Police Care UK has already made a huge impact, offering a variety of holistic services for police who have faced physical injury or psychological trauma.
In addition, Police Care UK also provides services to the families of police personnel, ensuring they are not impacted by the harm their loved one experiences.
Data shows that Police Care UK last year delivered services and projects to over 2900 cases, ensuring those who needed support could receive life-changing services such as therapy, counselling, support groups or financial support.
The Charity’s efforts also include awareness campaigns, addressing a need for further protection of the welfare and safety of police who are ultimately putting themselves in harm’s way to protect others.
National law firm Slater and Gordon has extensively supported retired and currently serving members of the police with legal support in areas including employment law and personal injury and works closely with the Police Federation, in a partnership which has lasted over seven decades.
The partnership with Police Care UK promises to help even more people recover from harm as a result of their policing career, through a combination of Police Care UK’s support services and Slater and Gordon’s legal expertise, alongside a shared commitment to bespoke rehabilitation.
Dr Vlada Penlington, Head of Fundraising at Police Care UK, says: “This collaboration is more than just support - it's a commitment to restoring lives of serving or veteran police officers, staff, volunteers, and their families. Together, we are making a tangible difference, and we are truly grateful for your belief in our mission and the lasting impact we are building side by side."
Madelene Holdsworth, Managing Director of Specialist Legal Services at Slater and Gordon, adds: "As a firm which is proud of its longstanding track record of supporting police, we are very pleased to build that even further through our partnership with Police Care UK. Police risk their safety for the public protection, and it is only right that they are given the very best support when they need it.
“Our legal expertise will ensure they are given the highest standards of advice and representation from the moment they need us, and we'll be by their sides for as long as it takes. We look forward to working alongside Police Care UK to deliver bespoke support to those who need it."
