Crime Fighting Duo Get On Their Bikes

Tuesday, 03 March, 2009

The Chief Constable of Cleveland, Sean Price, and his Deputy Derek Bonnard plan to lead by example when it comes to charity fundraising.

The police duo have agreed to take part in a 300 mile sponsored bike ride this summer to raise money for Christian Aid.

Now they are spending their free time pounding the streets around Police HQ in preparation for the London to Paris ride in July.

Mr Price came up with the idea in the New Year and Mr Bonnard readily agreed to join him in the ride which is a national event organised by the charity.

"The police often ask for the public's help so I felt this was a way of giving something back. It is a very worthy cause and also a great way to keep fit," said Mr Price, a keen mountain biker.

Mr Bonnard, also an experienced cyclist, added: "It's a case of putting in the road miles now in training so we are ready for the challenge in July - though hopefully we won't have any snow to contend with!"

The pair have set a target of £5,000 and donations can be made online at:

or sent to Mr Price at Cleveland Police HQ, Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough, TS8 9EH.
