Local business man backs "Respect" campaign

Thursday, 18 September, 2008

Local businessman Fred Story has added his considerable backing to Cumbria Constabulary's 'Give Respect Get Respect' campaign.

To highlight their support, the Story Group has added the Respect logos to 300 of their company vehicles, which can be seen all over Cumbria, Scotland and across to the north east.

Fred commented 'We're giving this campaign our backing as our company wants to be a part of helping to create safer and stronger communities in the area, which is very much what our company stands for and in particular, what Story Homes are achieving; we are helping to build and create strong communities on our developments.'

The values of the Story Group are very much in keeping with the respect campaign. The company upholds a policy of communicating with customers and colleagues and respecting their views and the contribution they make. All Story staff are personally accountable for their own actions and the consequences they bring and they are encouraged to recognise and promote people's individuality.

Additionally the Company is actively working against stereotypes generally held about the construction industry. Head Office managers lead by example and cascade down the Company's vision, mission and values. All employees, from site-based employees to managers are encouraged to behave responsibly and with respect at all times.

Assistant Chief Constable Graham Sunderland said: "I think that it is fantastic that the campaign is being adopted by other organisations in Cumbria, as it keeps the message of Respect clear and visible for all to see.

I encourage everybody to take the Give Respect Get Respect message home with them as tackling anti-social behaviour is one of the key ways we can maintain safer, stronger, communities in Cumbria.

"It is vital we continue to work together in partnership to achieve this and I would like to thank Story for their support of the campaign. Moving forward we will continue to work with the people of Cumbria to challenge the small minority of people who believe it is acceptable to act in an anti-social manner. It is all about people taking responsibility for their actions within the communities in which they live."
