Balloons in Watford FC's familiar red, yellow and black club colours were launched into the October sky, to mark the opening of Origin Housing's latest affordable scheme, The Wrap, a unique residential development that 'wraps' around Watford Football Club stadium.

Karen Wilson, Origin's Chief Executive in her opening speech, described how the scheme arose as a result of a close partnership working between the Watford Borough Council, Watford Football Club and the Homes and Communities Agency.

Sir Bob Kerslake, in one of his final appearances as Chief Executive of the Homes and Communities Agency*, officially opened The Wrap, in the presence of over 60 guests, including The Elected Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, Councillor Bernard Lloyd, Chairman of the Hertfordshire County Council, and Stephen Marshall, the highly acclaimed architect behind the scheme.

Sir Bob commented,

"This is a terrific and bold scheme, in which Origin have created an innovative building, cleverly utilising every millimetre of space. I had to come along to see it today, as this is a fitting and welcome last visit in my role as HCA Chief Executive."

Stephen Marshall, architect responsible, praised the execution of his plans, adding, " This is about as good as it could get. Everything we aspired to in our initial plans 3 years ago, give or take a few minor and understandable tweaks, has been faithfully delivered."

Tenants, many employed at neighbouring Watford General Hospital, have already begun to move into the new development, which offers 164 one and two bedroom Intermediate Rent apartments. All apartments come with an impressive high standard of specification, and there is even an on site estate management service. Rentals start from £520 PCM for a one bedroom apartment. Interested parties are advised to call Origin Housing on 01923 234483.
