Your Life Experience is Your Greatest Tool

Our Stepping Forward to Foster is looking for people with transferable skills to provide specialist fostering for young teens.

Young people in the Stepping Forward program have often experienced significant harm, neglect, and trauma. Some may have struggled in traditional foster placements, while others are ready to move from residential care into a family setting. They don't just need a bed; they need someone who will stick by them, be empathetic, and nurturing.

By providing a safe, stable home, you help break the cycle of placement moves and give a young person the chance to thrive.

Because we know this is a significant commitment, we don't expect you to do it alone. We offer a "wrap-around" support system designed to support you.

You’ll have:

• Expert Guidance: A Senior Supervising Social Worker and 24/7 out-of-hours support.
• Clinical Input: Regular psychology sessions to help you understand and meet the child’s specific emotional needs.
• Specialist Training: Advanced courses, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), to add to your existing skillset.
• A Built-in Break: Direct support from respite carers for activities, tea visits, and sleepovers to ensure you have time to recharge.

Financial Recognition and Stability

We value your expertise. Just as your previous service was a professional career, so is specialist fostering. To ensure you can focus entirely on the child, we provide a competitive financial package:

• £960 per week when a child is placed.
• Additional Allowances: Extra payments for birthdays and for the festive season.
• Foster carers also benefit from special tax exemptions, meaning they pay a much lower rate of tax compared to employed roles.
