Cranfield's Forensic MSc Programme receives accreditation

Cranfield University's Forensic MSc Programme has recently received formal accreditation by the Forensic Science Society. Cranfield is one of just three Universities to have achieved this accreditation for its postgraduate courses.

The Society's accreditation scheme recognises high-quality courses that contain forensic science components at both Bachelors and Postgraduate level; helping to maintain standards of education in forensic science.

Accreditation is based on a series of Component Standards which address key areas of forensic practice: Interpretation, Evaluation and Presentation of Evidence, Laboratory Analysis and Crime Scene Investigations. As part of the accreditation process the syllabus for Cranfield's programme was thoroughly reviewed with visits to the University and its facilities, and meetings with staff and current students.

The programme was highly commended and particular mention was made to; the wide range of analytical equipment and unique facilities available at Cranfield, the availability and range of student's research projects, and the inclusion of external speakers and forensic practitioners on the programme.

Dr David Lane, Forensic MSc Programme Director said "I am extremely pleased that the Forensic MSc Programme has been officially recognised by the Forensic Science Society. We pride ourselves on delivering a range of Masters' courses that are relevant and up-to-the minute ensuring that our graduates are successful in their Forensic careers".

Brian Rankin, Immediate Past President of the Forensic Science Society and Co-Chair of Standards said "I am delighted that Cranfield had been accredited making 17 universities in total. The required standard is high and only those universities who meet the scientific component standards, analytical and forensic facilities, specialist staff and show successful employer engagement are considered."
