A cricket club of serving and retired police personnelhas been sponsored by G4S for a further five years, it has been announced.

Formed in 1973, the British Police Cricket Club (BPCC) goes on tour each year, playing both local and county cricket teams and those representing the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

The business has sponsored the BPCC since 2010 and, following the latest announcement, will continue to do so until the end of 2019.

“Quite simply, sponsorship like this helps us to exist,” said BPCC Secretary David Fraser-Darling, who began playing for the club after joining Nottinghamshire Police in 1989,making 98 appearancesbefore retiring from the sport in 2011.He took overall charge of Police Cricket in 2009

“We’re a very successful club, but without sponsorship we wouldn’t be able to go on tour, and we’re delighted that G4S has agreed to continue their association with us for another five years.”

The G4S logo will appear on the club’s main and training kits and, announcing the new deal, Public Services MD John Shaw said: “We recognise the importance of sport to positively engage, unite and inspire people, and are looking forward to seeing the BPCC go from strength to strength.”

BPCC Chairman Marcus Beale said: “The British Police Cricket Club has a proud and successful tradition of playing high quality, enjoyable and competitive cricket against the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and other representative teams.

“We have enjoyed wonderful support of G4S since 2010, and are delighted and most grateful that G4S have committed to supporting us for a further five years. Their support will allow the BPCC to represent the finest traditions of British Policing through our cricketing endeavours.”
