The Independent Review of the Police Federation

The President of the Police Superintendents' Association of England and Wales, Irene Curtis, welcomes the publication of the Independent Review into the Police Federation:

“I very much welcome the publication of this Review.  It is a huge credit to the leadership of the Police Federation that, despite the excellent work that the Federation does across very many areas of its business, they recognised that the time was ripe for change and that things needed to be done differently - even though this might prove challenging.

In commissioning the Review, the Joint Central Committee has initiated what is undoubtedly the most detailed review of the Federation in its history.  Members of the Independent Review Panel are all highly credible individuals who are accomplished in their own right.  The Review, to which we gave evidence, has been both very thorough and wide-ranging in its approach.  The resulting recommendations, should they be implemented, will present a huge opportunity for the Federation to ensure that it is more effective and efficient as an organisation, and better able to meet the needs of its members.

Like the Superintendents’ Association, the Federation exists not only to look after the interests of its members, but also to help develop policing for the benefit of the public.  I have every confidence that implementing the recommendations of this Review will assist them in both respects.

We have enjoyed a positive and constructive working relationship with the Federation over many years.  We will continue to work closely with them in the future and, for our part, will do all that we can to support and assist them as they seek to transform their organisation as a consequence of this Review.”
