The new battenburg livery for the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) emergency vehicles has been approved and is starting to be rolled out across the Met's response
fleet.
The project to update the Met's fleet is due to last approximately three years, as new vehicles are given the new livery design when replacing old vehicles, which are no longer used by police. The new battenburg design brings the Met in line with other forces across the country, increasing visibility and adopting the Home Office approved livery.
Before going ahead with the project, the Met decided to gauge public opinion on introducing the new design. A vote was held on Facebook and Twitter over a two week period, asking members of the public whether the Met should adopt the new design or stay with the existing look. After receiving approximately 800 votes the results showed the public was in favour of the battenburg design and Met coming in line with other UK police forces.
Assistant Commissioner Simon Byrne said: "The introduction of the battenburg design will make the cars more conspicuous and help keep Londoner's safe. This is based on research sponsored by the Home Office."
