Lancashire Constabulary Chief Constable Steve Finnigan has been officially presented with the CBE bestowed on him in Her Majesty the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Mr Finnigan received the prestigious accolade at Buckingham Palace on Friday 19 November from His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, in recognition of his contribution to the police service.

After 25 years with Merseyside Police, Mr Finnigan joined Lancashire Constabulary as Assistant Chief Constable in 2001. He was promoted to Deputy Chief Constable in 2002 and, following the departure of Sir Paul Stephenson to the Metropolitan Police in 2005, became Acting Chief Constable, before being substantively appointed in 2007.

Mr Finnigan, who has previously been awarded the Queen's Police Medal, said: "I was delighted and extremely proud to receive the CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Visiting Buckingham Palace with my family to accept the award from His Royal Highness Prince Charles was a very enjoyable and memorable experience.
"This accolade is testament, I believe, to the wonderful advice, support and commitment I have received from many colleagues and friends in the Police Service, and other partner agencies, over the years. And crucially, of course, the unstinting support I have received from my wife, Jackie, has been absolutely invaluable."

He added: "I feel very privileged to have received this award and extremely proud to lead, what I believe, is an excellent organisation, whose people are very focused on delivering a high quality policing service to the diverse communities of Lancashire."

Cllr Malcolm Doherty, Chair of Lancashire Police Authority, congratulated Mr Finnigan, saying: "This award acknowledges the tremendous contribution that Steve Finnigan has made to both policing and the community. I believe that Lancashire is a safer place thanks to his skill and dedication to duty and this is a very well deserved honour. I'm absolutely delighted for him and his family."
