Police officers help the heroes

Officers and staff from North Yorkshire Police have presented a cheque for £2,309.35 to the Help for Heroes fund.

The presentation took place at Police Headquarters, Newby Wiske on Wednesday 10 November.

The donation, which was received by David Morgan on behalf of the charity, was presented by PC Tony Robertson, who is based in Tadcaster, and Mat Holt, Training Manager based at police headquarters.

The money was raised earlier this year when a team of footballers from North Yorkshire Police played a charity football match against a team of officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on 27 May, at a stadium provided by Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.

PC Tony Robertson said: "We picked the Help for Heroes fund to benefit from the fundraising as it is a charity that is close to the public's heart.

"I would like to thank colleagues from across North Yorkshire and family and friends for the support they have given, in particular Mat Holt who has been instrumental in helping to raise the cash and organising the trip."

PC Robertson served 11-and-a-half years in the army with postings to the Falklands, Canada and Northern Ireland. He will be one of six officers from North Yorkshire Police taking part in the Remembrance Sunday parade in Whitehall this weekend. He added: "I have friends who have died, been injured and still serving in the military, it will be honour to represent North Yorkshire Police and pay my respects to soldiers past and present."
