Bus Cop Finds His Richmondshire Route

Thursday, 24 June, 2010

PCSO Gavin Dobson of the Richmond Safer Neighbourhood Team has started a new scheme to enable him to be at the heart of the community.

Gavin will travel on a public bus in the Richmond Town area every week for around an hour, in a bid to engage with as many members of the public as possible. He believes it is a fantastic opportunity to hear, first hand, of any concerns the residents of Richmond may have.

PCSO Dobson said: "Sometimes the public are reluctant to approach the police for a number of reasons and may feel the matter is not worth reporting or that we will not be interested. I want the public to know that no issue is too small or insignificant and they should have the confidence to speak out regardless."

Chief Constable Grahame Maxwell said: "Bus Cop is a fantastic initiative which represents the true values of Safer Neighbourhood Policing. It's about our officers being at the heart of our communities, being available, approachable and tackling the issues that matter locally to the people of North Yorkshire and the City of York".

Bus Cop is supported by the Dales and District Bus Company. For more information on Bus Cop call PCSO Gavin Dobson, on 0845 6060247.
