Senior officers at Suffolk Constabulary have presented the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer with a cheque for £2000 following successful fundraising at the Senior Women in Policing (SWIP) Conference 2010.

Chief Constable Simon Ash and Deputy Chief Constable Jacqui Cheer presented Cathy Frost from Suffolk Breakthrough with the donation at the Constabulary Headquarters in Martlesham on Monday 19th April.

The funds were raised at the SWIP Conference held at Dunston Hall in March this year, which was targeted towards senior women police officers and staff, with the aim of developing and supporting the future leaders of the Police Service.

A raffle was held at the event, raising £1500, with further contributions coming from the police band 'The Rhinos' who performed at the event, and from the Chief Constable through the Police Property Act Fund.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer work to save lives through enabling and ensuring access to improvements in breast cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, and were the chosen charity for the conference this year, which was attended by close to 150 senior women delegates from police forces across the county.

Deputy Chief Constable Jacqui Cheer, who hosted the event commented, "We are delighted to present Breakthrough with a cheque for the monies raised at our recent conference. The event was a great success and was complemented by the generosity and support our delegates showed towards the charity, whose work is crucial in helping women across the country who are affected by breast cancer."

Cathy Frost of Breakthrough Suffolk said, "On behalf of Breakthrough Breast Cancer we would like to say a big thank you to all the delegates, conference organisers and Constabulary staff who raised a wonderful amount of money for Breakthrough.

"The Suffolk Fundraising Team hopes that its association with Suffolk Constabulary will continue, and that it will provide opportunities for further fundraising and awareness campaigns. It is a positive step towards forging links within our community and with large organisations like the Police, as breast cancer affects so many individuals and families."
