Cumbria Police Federation Set Up Fund for the family of PC Barker

Monday, 23 November, 2009

Following the tragic death of PC Bill Barker both the Constabulary and Cumbria Police Federation have been inundated with offers of support and people wishing to donate money to Bill's family. So Cumbria Police Federation, the staff association which represents 99 per cent of Cumbrian Police Officers, have set up an account in his name.

Andy Wilson, Board Chair of Cumbria Police Authority, said: "We are greatly saddened at the loss of our colleague Bill Barker and wish to recognise the devastating impact when a colleague is lost whilst performing his duties. It is clear that when he died Bill's thoughts were for the safety of the public he served. I would like also to acknowledge the overwhelming support from colleagues and members of the public not only in recognition of Bill's extreme bravery, but from a desire to recognise that first and foremost Bill was a Family man. He leaves his wife Hazel and four young children.

"Responding to a number of pledges of cash donations from the public we have opened an account in the name of Bill Barker. If you would like to donate the savings account is held with HSBC Bank: sort code 40 16 22, Account number 32260042.

Alternatively people can forward cheques to our office No 1 The Green, Carleton Avenue, Penrith CA102BA. All donations will be forwarded directly on to Bill's family."
