Police receive award from Somali Community

Chief Inspector Nick Davies and Asha
Kalib, Chair of HASVO POLICE in Harrow received an award from the local Somali community, in recognition for their work following the murder of teenager, Hassan Kul Hawadleh in Wealdstone in February 2009. The award was made at a Somali Youth Conference, organised by HASVO (Harrow Association of Somali Voluntary Organisations).

Asha Kalib, Chair of HASVO said: "For the last two years we have been working closely with police in Harrow who have tried hard to help our community. They have especially concentrated on our young people encouraging them to integrate
and find jobs.

"They were the driving force behind the
London Somali Youth Conference set up earlier this year and have made sure the community have been kept fully informed and updated follow Hassan's murder."

Chief Inspector Nick Davies receiving the
award on behalf of police in Harrow said: "We have a large Somali community here on the borough. Since Hassan's murder we have made great strides in terms of understanding their needs and specific concerns. It is a great honour
to receive this award which is testament to the hard work that officers and our colleagues at Harrow Council have carried out in recent months."

Four men charged with the murder of Hassan
Kul Hawadleh are due to stand trial at the Old Bailey later this year.
