New commander takes charge

North Tyneside has a new area commander, Chief Superintendent Gary Calvert, who joins the borough from Northumbria Police headquarters where he was in charge of the Force Information and Intelligence Department.

He is an experienced officer with 23 years service and has worked in a number of operational departments in CID and uniform throughout the force. He is delighted to take up this new challenge, in charge of policing in North Tyneside, one of the best performing area commands.

Chief Supt Calvert says: "My priority is to continue to reduce crime and disorder and make people feel safer in their neighbourhoods."

Other changes in the senior management team include; Superintendent Ralph Logan, who resumes his role as superintendent in charge of crime, after temporarily being area commander. Chief Inspector Kevin Wellden joins from South Tyneside, to take up the role of community and operations.

Chief Inspector Max Black moves from that post to become detective chief inspector and Chief Inspector Mick Paterson is now in charge of criminal justice in North Tyneside.
