Pupils ask drivers to brake their speed

Thornbury Neighbourhood Team (Avon & Somerset Police) helped schoolchildren
in their bid to break a world record last month.

Neighbourhood PC Neil Whyman joined 118 children from Christ the King Catholic Primary School in their bid to help the road safety charity 'Brake' beat the world record for the longest
'walking bus'. Earlier in the week just under half the pupils used the walking bus to get to school, with support from the local Black Horse pub, which allowed parents to use their car park to 'park and stride' with the children.

School head teacher Carol Lawler said: "The children really enjoy walking and of course it is better for the environment and better for their health!"

PC Whyman said: "I was happy to support the children on their walk, to help make sure they stay safe on our roads and to make drivers more aware of the need to cut their speed around schools." The children were also asking drivers to brake their speed near schools.
