Surrey Police are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated individuals to fill current and projected vacancies for Roads Policing Support Officers (RPSOs), within the Roads Policing Unit.
The primary role is to support police officers in enhancing public confidence on the roads of Surrey through casualty reduction initiatives, tackling anti-social driving and where necessary enforcing the law. One key and potentially stressful aspect of this role is to assist police officers at serious and fatal collision scenes.
The primary objectives of the role will be achieved by a combination of reassurance patrol, speed management and driver education. RPSOs are problem solvers and operate with our community partners to achieve results. RPSOs also support high profile events including the Epsom Derby.
Successful candidates must be self motivated, have first class interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively across a wide spectrum. The ability to work well as part of a team or in a solo capacity with the confidence to make effective decisions under pressure is essential.
Candidates will hold a full and valid driving licence (category C) and be required to take the Surrey Police eyesight test and a short driving assessment to ensure that they are able to meet the required standard. They will also be vetted to CTC level.
Successful candidates’ names will be placed on a waiting list until an appropriate vacancy arises. However, subject to openings, an immediate appointment could be made.
On appointment candidates will be required to complete the relevant training, and after successful completion will be granted statutory designated powers by the Chief Constable.
