This is about more than just answering a telephone - far more. The situations you deal with here could involve anything from life-threatening emergencies to reports of suspicious activity. The people you speak to could be in shock, angry, upset, even in danger. Equally, you could be taking a call about something that’s routine or quite mundane – but still needs your attention. But whatever the call, and whoever the caller, you’ll need to be a calm, confident and caring presence at the other end of the line. Equally, when the problem’s resolved, you’ll need to be able to move on swiftly – not just practically, but emotionally.
It’s not the easiest job by any means, but that’s exactly what makes it such a diverse and rewarding career. You’ll offer strength and reassurance to many different people - you could even save lives.
Of course, we’ll give you all the training, support and encouragement you need to become the very best you can be. But really, this is about how you relate to people. If you can listen to and engage with people of all ages and backgrounds – and can commit to shift-working in a 24/7 environment - this could be for you.
Successful applicants will be placed in a pool, to await an induction programme.
