British Transport Police is unique in that its operational area covers the whole of the UK Mainland. As a Crime Scene Examiner you will be part of the Scientific Support Unit and will be based in Birmingham, but your area will cover the Midlands, the South West and Wales.
You will work as part of a team of professional Crime Scene Examiners, and will be required to attend serious crime scenes/ incidents, recording the scene through photography, then dealing with evidence recovery, interpreting the forensic evidence present and possibly carrying out a fingerprint examination of the area.
You will also be required to assist in various identification methods. Travel, flexibility and adaptability are a major part of the role and you may also be required to assist at major incidents across the area and at times the country.
Invites are made to those who have passed the Initial Scenes of Crime Course at the NPIA Training Centre.
You will be preferably educated to Degree level and/or have previous knowledge of forensic recovery/exhibit handling, photography, and recording of evidence. A full UK driving licence is essential.
You will need to be an excellent communicator at all levels, and have good IT skills. A successful candidate will show high levels of commitment, self motivation and be highly adaptable. The ability to work alone and make decisions is imperative.
