South Yorkshire Special Constables have the same powers as the regular police officers and are ordinary people who come from all walks of life. What makes them so extraordinary is that they juggle busy lives and personal commitments with volunteer police work in order to help make their communities a safer place.
Specials stand out from the crowd, they possess life skills in Respect For Race and Diversity, Problem Solving, Community and Customer Focus and Teamworking. Such skills help in dealing with lots of police situations from high visibility patrols to reassure the community, anti-social behaviour, crime reduction initiatives targeted at local areas and most recently major incidents like the floods.
How do I become a Special in South Yorkshire Police?
We encourage men and women from all backgrounds to join the Special Constabulary as it represents the communities it serves.
Can you spare a minimum of 16hrs a month (4hrs a week)?
Are you 18 years of age or over?
You must be honest and in good health and of good character.
You must be either a national of a country within the European Economic Area, or if not have leave to enter or remain in the UK free of restrictions.
