RESPONSIBLE FOR: Crime Management Unit Sergeants
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
To supervise the work of the CMU Unit overseeing the screening and allocating of crime and non-crime incidents ensuring that they are managed and investigated in line with Force Policy and Procedures and the correct level of service is provided to internal and external customers. To report to the Director of Investigations and other Chief Officers as directed in all matters relating to Crime Management.
KEY TASKS:
• To use the Crime Recording System, Solvable Crime Template and Force Screening Policy to manage and allocate crime and non-crime incidents for investigation to the most appropriate resource.
• To supervise resources within the CMU to ensure that the appropriate level of service is provided and that team objectives and performance targets are achieved.
• To enforce crime recording and investigating standards, compliance with Standard Operating Procedures, Home Office Counting Rules and National Crime Recording Standards in relation to crime.
• To monitor the progress of work allocated and enquiries and ensure that they have been completed in line with Force Policy and Procedures. Audit cases to ensure the appropriate action has been taken and that the customer has been kept informed of progress.
• To a ssess completed reports and ensure they meet the correct standard; consider applications for ‘Cancelled No Crime' and ‘Detected No Prosecution'.
• To deliver training, both formal and informal in all matters relating to Crime Management, investigation and the use of the Crime Recording System.
• To provide specialist Crime Management advice and performance monitoring information to Area Management Teams and other interested parties in order to support the achievement of Force Objectives and enable compliance with Force policy.
• Liaise with other Crime Managers and Area CSU Managers in order to share and develop best practice so that a corporate approach is maintained.
• To represent the Crime and Community Department in respect of investigative issues relating to Force Projects e.g. NCPE.
• To represent Northamptonshire Police in respect of central crime management, recording and investigation of volume crime.
• To act as the Deputy Force Crime Registrar.
• To directly advise and assist ACPO on CMU matters, in particular crime portfolio holders.
