You will act as the Deputy SIO (or SIO in their absence) within Secondary Phase Cases of Murder and Serious Major Incidents.You will prioritise enquires allocated to the secondary phase unit and allocate staff accordingly.

You will ensure staff handle enquiries in accordance with the Home Office counting rules for Recorded Crime, the National Crime Recording Standard and minimum investigative requirements together with keeping Senior Investigating Officers fully updated on progress of enquiries and other matters, and liaising with Divisional Commanders and other divisions and departments as required.

You will have knowledge of the structure and the service provided by other police and criminal justice agencies that impact on the investigation of serious crime, knowledge of PACE 1984, CPIA 1996, RIPA 2000 and force policy and procedure relating to covert techniques.

You will have an appreciation of forensic techniques and technology available to assist major crime investigation and have practical knowledge of the Home Office Counting Rules for Recorded Crime and the National Crime Recording Standard.

Applicants must possess a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.

The post is temporary for up to three years and is reviewable.
