£15,303 – £20,820 plus 20% shift allowance where applicable, 37 hours per week (full rotating shift pattern over seven days). Progression up the salary scale is dependant on successful completion of training and a probation period.

Through flexible and committed team working, you will provide a high quality call handling and call management service to members of the community and the Constabulary. You will then progress to working on our busy dispatch desks, where you will take ownership of calls requiring police attendance and will ensure that resources are directed efficiently to incidents.

You will be qualified to GCSE grade ‘C' in English or equivalent, with demonstrable recent work experience where you have had to receive and record information accurately and initiate appropriate action. You will also have dealt with conflict, emergency or stressful situations and have 20 wpm keyboard skills.

You will be expected to work a 24 hour full rotating shift pattern. Assessments will take place on 13, 14 and 15 February 2008 lasting for two hours and successful candidates will be invited for an interview during 18 to 22 February 2008. There will also be a hearing test to ensure applicants meet the required standard for this role.

Successful candidates will be required to attend a four week training course from 9am to 5pm commencing 28 April 2008.

Please note, initial commencement will be as a Call Taker. After achieving the required standard in this role, you will commence training for the Communications Officer role. Confirmation in a permanent position as a Communications Officer will be dependent on achieving the required standard during the probation period and the number of vacancies available at the time.
