PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To survey members of the public who have had contact with Northamptonshire Police to provide data for the force's performance indicators, supporting management information and to undertake any ad hoc research.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Draw from the records of all incidents reported to Northamptonshire Police and from other sources, a random sample of the population to be interviewed for telephone, postal or personal interviewing.
• Conduct telephone interviews with members of the public according to a predefined format but treating each person as an individual and promoting the image of the force by maintaining a professional attitude and courteous approach at all times.
• Conduct face-to-face interviews or postal surveys with members of the public as directed by the Senior Research Officer.
• Record the result of each telephone, postal or personal interview on a computer ensuring the preservation of accurate and accessible records.
• To provide feedback (by e-mail) to police officers and support staff concerning their performance.
• To draw any issues to the attention of the Supervisor.
• To carry out any administrative duties considered to be within the scope of the post.
NOTE:
The job description reflects the major tasks to be carried out by the post holder and identifies a level of responsibility at which the post holder will be required to work. In the interests of effective working any major tasks may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changing needs and circumstances. Such reviews and other consequential changes will be carried out in consultation with the post holder. The post holder will be also required to carry out such other duties as may be determined from time to time to be within the general scope of the post.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:
The appointment will be part time and subject to the conditions of service of the Police Support Staff Council.
The annual leave entitlement is 22 days (pro rata) with an additional 5 days after 5 years continuous service.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
• Good communication skills including pleasant telephone manner
• Ability to work unsupervised
• Keyboard skills
• Flexibility in approach to work
• Candidates must be able to demonstrate a level of awareness of equality issues appropriate to this role.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
• Previous customer care experience
